Dental implants are
metal posts that are placed in the jawbone below the gum tissue that act
as tooth root substitutes. Implants
are made of materials that are compatible with human bone and tissue.
Artificial teeth that look like natural teeth, are then attached to the implants by your general
dentist. Anyone who is
missing teeth can benefit from the many advantages offered by dental
implants. Many people find it difficult or impossible to wear a denture
and implants can be their solution. Dental implants are
changing the way people live. With
them, people are rediscovering the comfort and confidence to eat, speak,
laugh and enjoy life! For most patients, the
placement of dental implants involves two surgical procedures.
First, the implants are placed within your jawbone.
Over the next four to six months, the implants gradually bond
with the bone in a process called “osseointegration”.
During this time you should be able to wear a temporary denture
and eat a soft diet. Once
the implants have bonded with the bone, the second phase begins.
Dr. Roberson will uncover the implant and attach a small post,
which will act as an anchor for the artificial teeth. Occasionally, people
may not have enough haw bone due to an accident, disease or birth
defect. Dr. Roberson will
thoroughly discuss the options necessary to reconstruct your jawbone for
implants. The entire process
usually takes six to eight months.
Most patients will not experience any conflict with their
business, social or athletic activities. If you are among the millions of people who suffer from tooth loss, you can stop the problems or pain caused by dentures, bridges or missing teeth. You can improve your quality of life by rediscovering the joy of eating, speaking clearly and laughing comfortably. Call our office and schedule an appointment with Dr. Roberson to see if you are a candidate for dental implants.
